When I hear Loreena McKennitt's "To Drive the Cold Winter Away", it always brings to mind the winters of my childhood. The chilly sky, pearl gray and taupe, muted and washed with smoke and mist. The deep periwinkle sea dotted with puffs of mist spouting as the gray whales would make their way home and seagulls cried in the frosty briny air. My mother and I would drive through the soft hills with fog and sunlight down the California coast to gather Bay Laurel branches for our home, the car would be full with the fragrant spicy scent of Bay Laurel and we would listen to Loreena's entire cd over and over again. Winter is a mysterious season of frost and silence. Like a wee beastie, this time of year inspires us to nestle into our warm and snug burrows and enjoy the timeless comforts of mulled apple cider, the soothing warmth and vibration of a contented purr, candle glow and firelight, and a cheerful melody. Following nature's lead we turn inwards, rest, and reflect on life and our desires. May you have many bright blessings this Yuletide and drive the cold winter away.

Birthdays and Changes

Today is a fun day. It's my mama's birthday(the enigmatic Scorpio)!

It's also been quite an exciting past few weeks, bringing the good news that our house has been sold. We were just ready to take it off of the market and settle in for the winter when three offers came in, we were overjoyed with the news. We first moved to Whidbey Island when I was just 15 and I've grown so much, as I am now 27. I've experienced the death of  my grandmother with whom I was close, and deaths of childhood pets as well as first love and heartbreak.  My mother and I have always been the most kindred spirits and our closeness has been the one constant in my life.  The past few years we have been dedicating ourselves to connecting with our passions.  We've always been creative but we made a decision to make creativity the top priority in our lives. Unfortunately all our craft supplies and tools have been packed away for the past six months.  This has been really difficult though we have spent lots of time dreaming and planning.  We hope all goes well with the house sale but for today we stayed in the moment and  celebrated.  Here are some photos of the goodies she got!

Who says one can't live a rich life without a lot of money?  The richness of a life well lived with art and music, loved ones, and passion is what counts.
